I have earned those white hair, son.
My 6-year old asked me the other day: “ Mom, why do you have some white hair?”
I answered: “I’ve earned them son.”
I have lived, I have loved, I have been hurt, I have hurt…
I have lived in many different countries, I had to adapt, I have felt alone, I have felt connected.
I have been in relationships that were not healthy, I have been uncommitted. I have been committed.
I have stayed in the jungle with monkeys. I have done long walks and trekked different parts of the world. I felt sick, real sick with altitude sickness on my way to the Machu Pichu.
I have experienced carrying life. I have given life. Twice. I have seen the miracle.
I have been part of the miracle.
I have sat in meditation and faced some of my shadows.
I have changed my life a few times.
I have loved. I have worried. I have had many adventures.
I have sat with plant medicine a few times, seeing myself die, the sadness and beauty of it.
I have grieved loved ones, my grandmother, my mother, my fetus child, my friend…
I have miscarried. I have waited.
I have been scared.
I have been courageous.
I have abandoned myself. I have stood up for myself.
I have connected with animals, trees and spirits.
My body has gone through changes many times, from all sort of shapes, child, skinny, women, pregnant, post-partum, breastfeeding body, and post, and now, I am 43.
I used to hate some parts of my body, never thin enough, never strong enough, my hair was never full enough… But I have learned through life to love. Every part. I don’t want to resist aging. I don’t want to hide. I don’t want to hate my body and myself.
I have done that before. It was not sustainable.
So yes I have a few grey hair growing. And I love them. They carry my story, my adventures, my pain, my joys, my laughters, my grief… They are a reminder of life.
And I have made the choice a few years ago, to love life. To love myself.
So yes my son, I have a few white hair and I love them. And one day, you will earn them too.
